When Phil Fernandez was asked to be a keynote speaker for SaaStr 2018, he was used to leveraging the creative resources of Marketo—the company he cofounded and lead as chairman and CEO for a decade.

Now “retired”, Phil turned to us to help him create presentation visuals for his “10 Things I’d Do Better If I Did It Again” presentation and we helped him amaze his 1,000-person standing-room audience to rave reviews!


SaaStr is the largest B2B software conference in the world – featuring three days of sessions from 300 of the top speakers in SaaS.

Phil had been asked to speak at the “Fireside Stage” to help kickoff the 2018 conference and his presentation drew a standing-room only audience eager to hear his insights on building, scaling and going public with Marketo.


Phil knew the insights he wanted to share with the audience, but he didn’t know how to showcase them visually. We strategized with him to develop the concept, style and flow for the presentation – leveraging the Marketo color pallet as a nod to Phil’s background while featuring high-impact photos and flowing “Last time, this time” slide animations.

Phil sent us his script and our presentation designers did the rest—paying special attention to creating recap sections that would allow audience members to capture photos of the slides to refer back to after the event.


Phil’s reaction when we shared the design with him for the first time: “It looks GREAT.  I like the way you did the 1-10 slides very much.” Of course, viewing a presentation on a computer is very different from presenting it to a huge audience at a premiere industry event.

A week or so later though, Phil was singing the same tune after finishing his time onstage: “It went great!  Huge audience, probably 1,000 folks. I got through it in precisely 30 minutes. And it was very well received!”
