“Leadership Vision” is a popular topic in the business world – it seems any given day you can find an article, blog or video discussing how the most successful leaders have great vision and can anticipate how their environments and industries are changing. Leadercast 2016 was an event that hoped to bring fresh ideas and insights into this topic and we were fortunate enough to collaborate with a featured speaker on a Prezi presentation for the event.
Leadercast is the largest one-day leadership event in the world. The 2016 event held in May in Atlanta, Georgia featured speakers such as Nick Saban, Kat Cole and Steve Wozniak. The keynote speakers were hosted in Atlanta while being broadcasted all across the country to local host locations. In addition to the national keynotes, each local location had featured speakers. In total, over 100,000 leaders all over the country gathered for the event!
One of our clients, Brandon Dufour, was invited to be a featured speaker at the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce in Connecticut. Dufour, founder and General Manger of The Next Street, wanted to bring a young and energetic tone to a topic that is often presented in a stiff, corporate manner. He felt vision was often only discussed in terms of large companies or unicorns, even though it is just as applicable to small businesses: “There is still a level of vision necessary to run a small business,” Dufour said.
For his presentation, Dufor wanted to speak to the local community about what vision is, how it relates to their businesses and how they can implement visionary leadership in their own organization. From small businesses to large corporations, he wanted to convey that vision alone doesn’t lead companies to great success but rather the execution on vision. With this topic in hand, Dufour generated a lively discussion with his audience.
The presentation itself was planned to take 10 minutes – leaving plenty of time for discussion. We strategized with Dufour to create a visual that would allow the audience to see and understand the different sections of the presentation and how everything fit together. We conceptualized a funnel / inverted pyramid design to help illustrate the 4 steps to successful visionary leadership he was speaking about and how with each progression, fewer people and organizations are able to execute on their vision.
“It’s not enough just to be visionary,” Dufour said. “Lots of people can dream of space but leaders such as Elon Musk are successful because they follow through on their vision.
The presentation was a huge success. It was a cool opportunity for a successful entrepreneur to share with his local community about visionary leadership and how they can implement it successfully in their small businesses. And of course, we love helping our clients transform a vision to a reality with their visual aids!
