Prezi Training Video #1: Formatting Considerations

When starting a Prezi, one of the most important first steps you should take is setting the screen ratio. Before you start work on your Prezi, you should ask yourself a couple of questions:

What device will my Prezi be presented on?

What is the screen ratio of that device?

By default, prezis are configured without an aspect ratio and will “fill out” whatever screen they are displayed on. If you don’t change that setting, your Prezi could display differently when you are making the presentation than how you originally configured it on your own computer. By setting the ratio, you ensure your presentation will look exactly how you intend it to no matter the playback device.

Generally speaking, if your presentation is going to be shown on an HDTV or computer monitor, 16:9 (widescreen) is the preferred aspect ratio. If the presentation is going to be shown on an iPad using the Prezi app, then 4:3 (fullscreen) is the preferred aspect ratio. Projectors can be both widescreen and fullscreen, so check which aspect ratio it is before beginning the Prezi design whenever possible.

If you have the ratio selected, this will also be the default ratio when you insert or draw new frames—saving you time and ensuring your Prezi appears to the audience exactly as you intend it to.

Good luck and happy Prezi-ing!
